Warren Rustand presents at The Proactive Accountants Network 2014 Annual Conference

What a way to finish things off, tears galore, at an Accountants Conference???
The Proactive Accountants Network concluded Thursday with a near four hour presentation by Mr Warren Rustand.
Never heard of him, will let me give you a brief introduction …

  • NBA Player
  • White House Fellow
  • Appointments Secretary to Gerald Ford, President of the United States
  • Served on the Boards of over 50 Public, Private and Not-for-Profit Organisations
  • These range from Multibillion Dollar Public Companies, to Midsize, Early Stage and Startup companies.
  • Started 15 businesses of his own and listed several of them on the New York Stock Exchange
  • Currently, in his 70s, is CEO of a 15,000 Employee Publicly Listed Company
  • If interested I recommend Googling for more information about Warren.

Warren presented on the topic “Taking Your Life to the Next Level” and demonstrated how to get the best out of yourself and then how to channel your best into your business, your family and your community.
He told some incredible stories of his own life and experience and how he had used these experiences to take his own life to the next level and then channelled his abilities into creating and building hugely successful companies, while raising an amazingly successful family (he has 7 children, 4 of whom are CEOs of companies and all high achieving athletes) while making continuous contributions to charities, not-for-profits and people in need throughout the world.
The passion he held was clearly evident as he choked back tears when telling the story of how he was betrayed by a business partner, how he learned to forgive his business partner as much for his own benefit as that of his partner and how they found a way to continue to work together and do great things together.
The passion he instilled in his audience was equally evident when not for the first, second but third time throughout the course of his presentation he had the audience reaching for the tissues

Colin Dunn, PAN Chief Innovation Officer, still struggling even after Warren has left the stage :)

Some key take aways from Warren –

  • To accomplish great things, we must not only dream, but plan, not only believe, but act
  • Take the chance to discover your only capacity AND that of your team (staff)
  • If you want to know about the way forward, talk to someone on the way back and learn everything they have to offer

If you ever get the chance to see him, I highly recommend it (just don’t forget the Kleenex)!
