Day four, last day.
The morning was spent between Tom and myself reviewing and brainstorming how we can start to put many of the things we had learnt over the previous three days into practice.
In the afternoon, we were treated to interviews by Colin Dunn with the Directors/Owners of three of the highest performing firms within the Network.
It really is quite amazing to hear their stories and learn how just a few short years ago they were small traditional firms like many in attendance who are still relatively new to the PAN journey. The level of efficiency, productivity, customer service and higher value business growth and advisery type services they are achieving and providing is fantastic. Though I will say, luckily for us, none of those top firms are based in WA (?), so hopefully we will be the first from WA to be given the privilege of presenting to a future PAN Conference.
The formal components of the conference came to an end with a presentation from PAN Founder Rob Nixon. Many of our clients will know Rob as he presented at our Your Business By Design (“YBBD”) seminar held in November last year.
I understand Rob’s personality and the way he carries himself on stage may not be to some people’s liking all the time. However I honestly feel you have to respect him for what he has achieved. He came from a small town, had no tertiary studies, and yet he has built a high achieving business assisting already successful people do even better. And best of all, while he loves his business and works hard, it does not totally consume him and impact negatively on his personal life as can so often happen.
He is a true believer in the use of goal setting in all aspects of both business and personal life. And he encourages us to work closely with our clients to accurately discover and define what they want from their business (and personal) life and then to design, implement and monitor the process of achieving those goals.
Rob likes to tell people he flies at the front of the plane. It was and remains one of his goals, that when he travels, which he does often, he wants to do it in comfort and stress free.
If someone doesn’t want to work with him because they feel therefore he must be charging too much, he says “fine” because he feels they just don’t get it and he feels they will never get to where they want to go as they focus on the wrong things. He feels the fact he set himself that goal and has achieved it is just one piece of evidence as to why he can help others do the same.
Well I am pleased to tell you I have a similar goals
As you know I travel quite a bit, it is something I work very hard to achieve, it doesn’t just happen on its own. And I am excited to say I am writing this last post regarding the PAN conference from my Business Class seat on the Upper Deck of a 747 on its way to Santiago Chile ?
The conference ended with the traditional party on the last night. This year it was held at a Mystery Destination. Throughout the conference at the end of each session, two attendees names were drawn from a hat and they were to win a Mystery Prize (over 20 prize winners in total). Well the mystery destination turned out to the be the first Bungy Centre opened in the world, and the prize winners were all given a free bungy jump!
Nearly all accepted, some rather reluctantly, but all who did obviously had the time of their lives and learned something about themselves. I think facing my fears and performing a bungy jump is now going to be added to my own list of goals!
