Property & FBT Specialist / Client Manager

Professional profile

I am a Certified Practising Accountant (“CPA”), a member of CPA Australia and a Registered Tax Agent.  I also have a Bachelor of Commerce from Edith Cowan University, majoring in Accounting and Marketing. In 2006 I joined CapitalQ and I will soon celebrate my 13th anniversary with Duncan and the Team.

I am responsible for a varied Client base, though Cafe’s and Hospitality are fast becoming a niche of mine.  Property investing and building wealth through property, including addressing the relevant tax implications, is also a big area of personal interest.  I am also CapitalQ’s resident Fringe Benefits Tax specialist and Xero Guru.

In addition to my traditional role at CapitalQ, I have also commenced building a Small Business Networking Group which helps promote both CapitalQ and our Clients to prospective customers.  We meet on a monthly basis at a local cafe so anyone who is interested in expanding their business networks please get in touch and I will give you the details.  We also run a Facebook Business Networking Group, “Perth Small Business Networking (NOR)” which as at the time of writing currently has over 500 Members with a further 170 plus awaiting approval to join!

Oh, and one last thing, in the CapitalQ Client Testimonial Battle, I am a clear winner 😉 (Check some of them out here!)

Personal profile

I began my career in accounting shortly after playing cricket under the guidance of my then Cricket Captain turned CapitalQ Founder, Duncan Melbin in 2006.

In my spare time I still enjoy my cricket.  I have played regular A Grade cricket for Mount Lawley District Cricket Club in the WACA Premier Cricket Competition including playing against some of the best cricketers WA and Australia has produced over recent times.  I am currently Captain of the A Grade side at Bedford Morley Cricket Club which while still super competitive, requires just that little less of my time compared to WACA Premier cricket.

I am also a mad keen fisherman which I now get to enjoy with my eldest son, Mitchell (though little Charlie isn’t far off joining us either).  I have also taken on the role of Club Assistant Treasurer and Webmaster at the Western Australian Trout and Freshwater Fishing Association (“WATFFA”).  If you want some tips on the best fishing locations in Perth and the surrounds … don’t ask, coz I can’t tell you … its a secret 😉

I am fast establishing a tradition of an annual trip to New Zealand with my Dad to hone our Trout fishing skills in some of the best fishing spots in the world!
