Items still outstanding from last year’s Federal Budget – Couriers and cleaners to report contractor payments

Per last year’s Federal Budget the Taxable Payments reporting system for contractors is to be be extended to entities in the courier and cleaning industries from 1 July 2018.

The legislation to bring this into effect was introduced into Parliament on 7 February but as at today is still to pass through the House of Reps.

The law intends to bring into line the courier and cleaning industries with that of the building and construction industry.

Assuming it does pass, from 1 July 2018 courier and cleaning businesses who engage contractors, or subcontractors, will need to provide additional reporting each year to the ATO.
