And it begins for another year …
I am at Sydney Airport awaiting my flight to beautiful Queenstown, New Zealand for the Proactive Accountants Network Annual Conference for 2013.
Last years conference was probably the best conference I have attended. What we learned over those four days was amazing, frankly it was too much for such a short period of time, and we are still working on implementing much of it as we speak.
This years conference, and its topics come at just the right time.
The sessions I am most looking forward to are those to be presented by John Warrillow, author of the bestselling book “Built to Sell: Creating a Business That Can Thrive Without You” which was recognized by both Fortune and Inc Magazine as one of the best business books of 2011. John is also the founder of The Sellability Score, a cloud-based assessment tool business owners use to assess the “sellability” of their company. We have two clients in particular I can think of who are looking to exit their businesses over coming years and hopefully we will be able to help them put into practice some of the tips we will learn from John (and as a result achieve a great selling price).
Another session, that I must confess I was less interested in when it was first announced, is that to be presented by Olympic Gold Medalist Natalie Cook. Natalie will be presenting on the topic of Sustained Motivation.
I say I was less interested in this particular topic at first because at the time we had just completed our third record quarter in a row and business was good and we were all feeling great. However interestingly, over coming weeks and months the motivation that had been driving myself and my team waned, and the December quarter just finished was surprisingly well below the targets we had set for ourselves. So hopefully hearing from Natalie will help provide us with the tools to maintain the drive, and to help our clients do the same.
All going well I (and Tom who is joining me at the conference this year) will be able to provide some further updates over the coming days via our blog, Facebook and Twitter…
